Let’s get to know Vishal Mukadam
Those are some lovely words by Yogesh. Let’s get to know Vishal a bit better and ask him some questions about his work and passion for WordPress:
Vishal, how did you start with WordPress? Can you tell us the beginning of your story?
I was introduced to WordPress around 2009. I found it like many others: trying to create my own website. My first website on WordPress was a blog, but it no longer exists. The blog wasn’t great, but the experience was interesting, and I felt that WordPress had a certain power that could help anyone build a nice website. After a while, around 2015, I resumed my blogging and website building. Around that time, one of my friends told me he was attending a WordCamp in my city, Mumbai. He told me there was also a WordPress meetup group that I could join, so I did. I can honestly say that I learned everything I know about WordPress at that meetup. I started attending regularly and discovered many enthusiastic people in the WP Mumbai community were willing to help anyone with anything related to WordPress.
In 2015, I heard about a WordCamp happening in Pune, a nearby city. I couldn’t get a ticket, but I attended the Contributor Day. I haven’t done much there yet but learned about contributing to WordPress. In 2016, I had the opportunity to be part of the organizing team at WordCamp Mumbai.
Would you like to share some highlights of your contribution?
When I started contributing in 2015, I initially answered queries on the WordPress forums. Then, I learned about the Polyglot project and translated the WordPress core into Marathi and Hindi.
In 2017, I was a table lead for the Marketing team at the Contributors Day at WordCamp Ahmedabad, which I consider a highlight of my contribution journey.
This year (2025), I had the opportunity to speak at WordCamp Pune. I helped facilitate an ‘Introduction to WordPress’ workshop and later co-facilitated a workshop on ‘Full Site Editing—recreating a web page.’ Standing in front of a crowd and sharing my knowledge was very fulfilling. I feel confident now, and I would like to speak at a few more WordCamps in the future.
When I contribute to WordPress, I get to work with some of the brightest and smartest people in the world. Everyone is there to contribute and help each other. That is an incredible experience.
What do you do outside of your contributions?
I run my own web design agency, WP County. We create beautiful websites, conduct security checks, assist website owners with SEO, and restore hacked websites. I started my agency this year; prior to that, I built websites with WordPress as a side hustle.
What would you like to do in the future in WordPress?
I would love to contribute to Patterns and Full Site Editing. I have created some patterns for personal use, I would love to share a few with everyone. I also hope to add a plugin to the WordPress Plugin Repository.
Where can people find you?
I live in Mumbai so you can meet me at the Mumbai WordPress meetups. I travel to most of the WordCamps in India, and you can also reach me on X, the Make WordPress Slack as @vishalmukadam or Linkedin.
Thank you for this interview, Vishal, and all your contributions to the WordPress community! Do you know someone like Vishal Mukadam who also deserves to be in the spotlight? Go to our Yoast Care page and nominate them right away.
