Paolo Scala
Hi, I'm Paolo! I'm a senior developer working remotely from Italy.
Before starting my job at Yoast, I worked as a research technologist for more than 15 years, supporting projects ranging from construction technology to astrophysics.
My passion for computers and programming was born at the beginning of the 90s when I got hold of an Amiga 600.
That’s when I first discovered the world of demos, which inspired me to try my hand at programming.
On the Amiga, I wrote my first programs in AMOS Basic, a dialect of basic mainly oriented to developing multimedia applications.
In 1994, when I switched to the PC, I became interested in 3D graphics and ray tracing, which I approached thanks to POV-Ray, an Open Source ray tracer that still exists today. This was also my first step in the Open Source world. I immediately realised how valuable learning from others was.
Since then, sharing knowledge has become one of my greatest passions, so much so that I started teaching computer science at university.
Currently, I live in the countryside on the outskirts of Milan with my partner, our four cats and our dog.
When I’m not working, I like to think of myself as a guitar player lacking time to become the new Jimi Hendrix :)
I also love taking pictures, doing some DIY woodworking and taking care of my vegetable patch.
